Doris Ellen                            b 7/4/1919 in Brooklyn, NY            d 7/31/1993 in Duxbury, MA  ssn: 085-12-8251

Donald Malcomson             b 11/4/25 in Ridgewood, NY          d 2008

Graham Stillwell                   b 11/26/29 in Glens Falls, NY       d

Lived in Glens Falls, NY 19xx to 1948.  Lived in Thompson Ridge, NY 1948-1981, in the Robert A. Thompson house; Both are buried in Hopewell Cemetery.

as born in Pine Bush, in a blizzard.  The doctor, Dr. Stilwell couldn’t make it through from Dwaarkill for the birth.  George was a veteran of WWI (reserves, I think).  Worked for insurance company as an engineer.  He attended Cornell University for engineering.  Upon graduation, couldn’t find a job, so he joined the Army.  George & Alma bought the family farm in Thompson Ridge in 1948.

George researched his ancestors back to Peter Van Orden and contacted the SAR.  It took him a year, but he was finally accepted as an SOR on 1/23/1928.  Anyone related to him is now automatically a Son/Daughter of the American Revolution.

George holds an honorable discharge from the US Regular Army, US Engineers’ Corps dated April 25, 1911, and from the 7th Infantry, NYG (NYS Guard) dated April 5th, 1918.  He was a member of the State Defense Counsel, War Industries Board and Bureau of Fire Prevention.

Upon the death of George W. Jamison in 1938, George received John Jamison’s gold watch (Feb. 1938).

9/2004 – dad says that George & Alma lived for a time on a communal farm in the Coxackie, NY area.  That farm is now part of the prison.  Dad & Grandfather did drive around once to find the house.  Apparently Alma was left to run the house for several couples, and it became unfair.  Doris would have been a baby at the time.

Need to find out – how did George & Alma meet?

Philip Van Orden Jamison [parents] unmarried

No Children.

Phil was a veteran of WWI; Sgt. US Army.  Lived on Locust Farm, Pine Bush, NY.  Buried in New Prospect.  I have a picture of the gravestone.  Phil was supervisor of the Town of Crawford for some time.  He also ran (with another man) the Agway Coop in Pine Bush.

After WWI, he worked for Socony driving a road-oiling truck (this was mule-driven).  He came back to the farm to help his brother Baird run it.

From Phil’s Memorial Service program:

Philip Van Orden Jamison was born here in the Town of Crawford on February 3, 1889.  He lived his entire life in this Township, operating Locust Farm with his brother Baird from 1920 until 1970, and he died on November 9, 1972.  Mr. Jamison is survived by his sister, Mrs. Sarah E. Keller; his brother, William Baird Jamison; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jamison became a member of Graham’s United Presbyterian Church in 1902.  He began 46 years of service as an officer of this Church when he was elected a Trustee in 1924.  In 1934 he was ordained as a Ruling Elder and was elected Clerk of Session in 1935, holding both offices until December of 1970.

Moriah Masonic Lodge and First Methodist church, Lincoln NE.  Lived in Lincoln from 1936 to his death in 1958.  Mary was born in Syracuse, NE.  Dad says he went out to farm wheat during World War 1.  But then the wheat price failed after the war, so he eventually went into insurance.

I have seen several references to Mary Cory as JAJ’s second wife.  This doesn’t seem to make sense.

Lived in Pine Bush, NY.  John and Alice are buried in New Prospect Cemetery.  There is an old family photo of parents and children, taken on the family farm, called the Shafer Place (on route 302, south of Pine Bush), in 1907.  The farm site is now the former Pine Hollow Stud farm.  John and Alice rented the farm from her father, who owned it and the adjacent Elm farm.  A lane (opposite Van Keuren Ave. on Route 302) connected the farms (see mom & dad’s 1863 map).

John eventually purchased Locust Farm (in 1914, shortly before the start of WWI) in Pine Bush and farmed it, passing it on to Phil and Baird, who lived there all their lives.

John was highway commissioner for Town of Crawford (need to confirm this).  John died in 1934, when my dad (Graham S.) was not yet 5.  Dad has memories of walking hand-in-hand with his grandfather from the house, across Drexel Drive to the dairy barn.  John was Chairman of the Board of Assessors for the Town of Crawford, as per a letter to him dated July, 1923.  From a 1916 Graham’s United Presbyterian church program, J.A. is on the session of the church.

Alice had arthritis and was bed-ridden for the last years of her life.

Dad says they had a firstborn son, Samuel, who died young.  No one talked much about it.  Notice how George was baptized over a year after he was born.  Probably at the same time as Philip.  And why in Bullville instead of Pine Bush?

Here is part of a letter from Alice to George, probably from around 1925:

Dear George:

I received the magazine and thank you.  Also your letter.  I was glad you went down to see Alice it’s good for you to see your home folks.  Now dear this letter has been on my mind for some time + it is going to be the best advice I can give you on paper.

You have started again Geo. + if I were you I would gather all the knowledge you can from those older men in the ??, never mind if it does hurt once in a while to be told your faults. They have had more experience than you.  We are quite apt to forget this.  And George every night after you read your chapter (which please make it a rule to do, for in the bible you will find wonderful advice in all times) kneel down by your bed + pray that God will guide + direct you always.  Therein is your strength + help in season + out of season.  It’s a wonderful privilege we have to take everything to the Lord in pray (sic) we do not use this great blessing enough it keeps us thoughtful and earnest.

What a super letter from a mother to her son.  A t the time, she had been bedridden for 6 years.  She would live another 4.

Daniel (1847-1910) was a Presbyterian minister.  He attended a theological seminary in Newburgh.  Since Margaret died in 1935 in PA, can we assume that’s where she and Daniel settled after some time?

2/6/2003:  found a obituary for Dan. McKay:  http://hometown.aol.com/mckayeire/wmobits.htm.  These have been copied to my obits file.

Daniel G. McKay’s father is William McKay of county Antrim, Ireland.  His mother is Eliza Lanigan.  William McKay’s ancestors are from Scotland, and married into some Jamisons.  They went to PA, though, not NY.  William’s father William McKay was born in Glasgow, Sco and married Anne Porter.  This William’s father is John McKay (the start of the line).  See http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/mckayeire/familyhistory.htm.  For research, I copied off two lists of McKay descendents.  I am mostly interested in whether the Jamisons of PA are related to the Jamisons of Newburgh, NY.

It appears that Daniel McKay only knew of Margaret Leslie from being at Seminary in Newburgh?  Although maybe there is still a relationship prior among the Jamisons.

2/2008 Update from Bob Wilson (1934 native of Newburgh, NY, now living in Beaufort, SC).:

J Scott Wiseman was in the Civil War, then started a carting business on Front Street in Newburgh.  He was prominent in the Methodist Church in Newburgh.  He led a unit in the 1909 Grand Parade in Newburgh celebrating the Hudson-Fulton Anniversary, and also appeared as a surviving Civil War veteran in another Grand Parade in Newburgh on Decoration Day, 1917.  He lived at 47 Grand St.

cj todo:  need to lookup J Scott Wiseman in the Civil war archives!  - and look him up in the Methodist Church records / cemetery.

and here, can search for soldiers by name:  http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.cfm

here is a regimental roster for the 124th NY Infantry - the Orange Blossoms.  No Wiseman listed.

On to the 71st:

J. Scott Wiseman is listed in the 1889 Newburgh Directory as a truckman, living at 47 Grand in Newburgh.  Also living at that address are Miss Vinnie Wiseman.

In the 1890 Directory, we find Scott J. Wiseman (truckman), Miss Vinnie (music teacher) and Miss Sadie Wiseman.  All at 47 Grand.

In the 1891 Directory, we find J. Scott, Vinnie and Sadie.

In 1892, only J. Scott and Vinnie; still no occupation for Vinnie.  Sadie is not listed.

1878-9 Directory:  J. Scott Wiseman, truckman, 49 High.  (also A.B. Wiseman, 159 Lander & David Wiseman, 89 Smith)

George W. Jamison [parents] and Julia N. Crist md ~1898

            Hilda C                       b 6/1899                     d 1968

Apparently, George W. sold the family farm and moved to town.  He was a mason (see his gravestone).  He was paralyzed.  Was principal of the school in Pine Bush (now the Crispell Middle school – look at the plaque on the back of building!).  Ran an insurance company and published a paper.  Lived in Pine Bush.  His house is now (1998) the office of RJ Smith Realty.  Notice the wide doorways in the house (for his wheelchair).  George is buried in Brick Church Cemetery.  I have a picture of the gravestone [text].  From a 1916 Graham’s United Presbyterian church program, G.W. is clerk of the church.  There is also an advertisement for his insurance agency, and that he is notary public for Orange and Ulster counties.

George W. Jamison aquired his father’s gold watch in 1892 – years after John’s death; don’t know who had it in the meantime.

7/2004 according to LDS transcription of Shawangunk Dutch church birth records, he is George Washington Jamison, b 9/30/1860, bap 5/4/1861.

Julia N. Crist Jamison (b. 1871, d. 1936) is buried in Brick Church Cemetery near George & Hilda.  I have a picture of the gravestone.  It has a Daughter of the Revolution marker [text].

--------------------------------------------  end children of John C. Jamison --------------------------------------------------------

Generation 5 (great-great-great):

-------------------------------------------- children of Samuel Jamison --------------------------------------------------------

Alexander (Alec) Jamison [parents] and Margaret Malcomson [parents] md 12/24/1856 at Graham’s United Presbyterian Church in Pine Bush.

Elizabeth B. (Libbie)            b Feb 1858                d 1939

John Alexander                    b 3/16/1861               d 7/8/1934 in Pine Bush

Alec and Margaret are buried in Graham’s Cemetery.  See the obelisk at the bottom of the hill.  He owned a farm on Fleury Rd (east of Pine Bush), but lost it to debt.  That farm is now a Christian School (1998).  Farm acreage is 110 acres, according to mom & dad’s 1863 map.  Dad said he has never been in the house.  It would be neat to stop in some time.

I need to get a picture of the obelisk.  I also need to find obituaries for them.  Someday check the Middletown Herald for that time period.

Mom and dad have pictures of Alex and Margaret.  Given her death date (1898) she would still be alive while John A’s kids are born, but I have no reference to her.

7/2001:  Check if Margaret’s name isn’t Mackinson!  She is buried with the Mackinsons, and John Alexander’s obit says he is the son of Margaret Mackinson.  The burial Obelisk in Graham’s cemetery definitely says Malcomson.

7/2004:  the LDS site has Graham Cemetery Christening & Marriage records on-line.  It lists:

LDS IGI batch M506931 & M507091:

Alexander Jamison md Margaret Mackinson 12/24/1856.  There it is.

1880 Federal Census – Orange/Crawford (familysearch.org) page 112C

Alexandra, age 56, farmer, father & mother born in NY

Margaret, age 51, keeping house, father born in IRE, mother in NY – interesting

Mary E., age 21, at home

            John A., age 19, farmer

John Dickson, age 87, boarder – his parents born in IRE as well.

Research:  look this up on ancestry.com to see the image.  Done 2/24/3.  Actually, it appears to me that the census page says Alex’s parents are both born in NY.  But this would be incorrect, as Sam and Liz were both born in IRE.  John Dickson dies in 1882 and is buried at the same obelisk with Alex and Margaret in Graham’s cemetery.

10/2004:  I believe John B Dickson is Margaret’s uncle.  He would be Mary Dickson’s brother.

1870 Federal Census, Orange/Crawford, p324

Alex Jamison, age 46, farmer; 5,500 / 1,200; all born in NY; no record of parents with foreign birth.

Maggie, 43, keeping house

Mary E, 12, at school

John A, 9, at school

Peter L. Athens?, 18, farm laborer

Mary Malcomson, 83,

J. B. Dickson, 77

1860 Federal Census (p1044) Crawford/Orange Co; name is Alexander Jamerson:  Post office is Pine Bush.

Alexander Jamerson, age 33, Farmer, real estate $4,950, personal estate $1700, born in NY, as all in family & help

Margaret, age 32

Mary E, age 2

Mary Mackinson, age 70, born in NY

John Dickinson / Dickerson, age 60, born in NY

William Terwilleger, 17, Farm Laborer

Caroline Cranse, 35, Domestic

George W. Oney, 9, Farm Laborer

This is quite a household!  I’ll need to lookup more of the Mackinsons in orange co census data.  The ages for Alex & Margaret don’t quite add up.  And daughter Mary E becomes Elizabeth later on.  On the Alex Jamison obelisk in Graham’s cemetery is a listing for John B. Dickson? – This would be the hired man!  8/2004 – no, a relative.

From Graham’s United Pres. marriage records (at LDS site:

Hugh Mackinson & Susan Jane McLoughan, md 2/18/1847 at Graham’s

John Smith & Eliza Mackinson, md 2/28/1828 at Graham’s

James Hooks & Susannah Mackinson, md 10/10/1832

From Graham’s United Christening records (at LDS site):

Margaret Mackimson, born 4/4/1826, bap 7/23/1826 to Hugh Mackimson & Mary Dixon.  * this is my gg-grandmother.  Another record shows Dickson as the spelling.

David/Daniel Jamison [parents] and Mary D. xx  md.

Mary E.                       b 1838

Agnes                        b 1839

Jane C.                      b 1840

Sarah                         b 1846

David/Daniel             b 1848

Mary D, wife of David, buried in Coldenham Cemetery; died 4/18/1854, aged 45.  I have a picture of the headstone.  They had children; her headstone says ‘our dear mother’.

Mary E. Jamison died 9/26/1862 aged 25 is likely their daughter.  The headstones are similar styles (‘Our Dear Sister’).  7/2001:  Can’t find Mary E’s stone anymore.

We don’t know where David is buried.

Ancestry.com:  1860 federal census, David Jamison in Newburgh, Orange Co.; page 923.

David Jamison, 50

Mary E., 22

Jane? C., 19

Sarah, 14

David, 12

Occupation:  Carpenter, value of estate:  $100; born in Newburgh.

So this confirms that Mary E was a daughter of David.  And since the wife died in 1854, she wouldn’t be in the 1860 census.  So what happened to Jane, Sarah and David Jr.?

1850 Daniel Jameson Newburgh (p37)

Daniel, 43, Carpenter, born in Ireland.

Mary, 43, born in NY, as were all children.

Mary E, 12

Agnes, 11

Jane, 10

Sarah, 5

Daniel, 3

cj – Although this says ‘Daniel’, it must be a match for David – all children & ages match up.

Samuel Wiseman and Jane Jamison [parents] md

Joseph Scott             b 9/1843                     d  ~1919

Samuel                      b ~1844

Jane Jamison Wiseman is buried in Coldenham Cemetery.  Jane died 11/18/1884 aged 73.  I have a picture of the headstone.  Samuel was a carpenter in Newburgh.  He had two brothers, Archie and James, both buried in Newburgh’s Old Town Cemetery.  Sam died before 1867.  The Wisemans came from County Antrim in Northern Ireland (Same as Sam and Liz Jamison).

I got some of this information from Bob Wilson 3/2001.

2/2008 - updated per email from Bob Wilson (see notes above for J Scott Wiseman).

Bob Wilson doesn't think that Samuel Wiseman is related to Archibald & James.  But I think the coincidence is too strong to deny - I assume they are brothers, or at least related.  Bob says that Archibald had a son named Samuel Dunlap Wiseman, b 1844, who became a teacher in NJ.  This Samuel Dunlap Wiseman then had a son, J. Scott Wiseman, born in the 1880s in NJ.  Also, Bob W's date for Archibald's arrival is 1836 from Co. Antrim.  Since Jamison's also came from Antrim & Samuel married Jane, I think if very, very likely that Samuel, Archibald & James were related.

1860 Federal Census (p837) Jane Wiseman, Newburgh:

Jane Wiseman – age 47; no occupation; personal estate $200

Scott Wiseman – age 18 Soap Maker?

            Samuel Wiseman – age 15

Cannot find Jane in the 1880 census, but found son J. Scott – see his entry above.

Bob Wilson - wilso127@yahoo.com (updated 21 June 04)

MacNeal (Jr), John was born in Paisley in December, 1840. Emigrated with his parents, his brother Peter and a sister to New York in 1845, and came to Newburgh, NY with his brother Peter and his father in about 1853. Worked at various apprenticeships in the late 1850's, including a stint with a butcher named Taggert, until June 1862. Joined Company I of the 71st NY State Militia for three months' service with the Union Army in June 1862. After his service, returned to Newburgh and in December, 1863, married Elizabeth Wiseman in Newburgh. She was the daughter of an immigrant from Ahoghill Parish, County Antrim. They had five children in Newburgh between October 1865 and the summer of 1875. Became a successful builder and mason contractor in Newburgh and in Orange County. His wife passed away after childbirth in 1875. Of the five children of John and Elizabeth, one daughter (the youngest) died in 1876. His first wife, Elizabeth and their infant daughter, Elizabeth, are buried in the family plot in Newburgh. All other children married, but only one, the eldest, Margaret Dunlap, born 1865, had children. She married in 1898 and had one child Robert John Wlison (no relation to the presumed earlier Wilson line)Margaret is/was a grandmother of Robert J. Wilson, Jr. of 100-37 Hope St, Stamford, CT 06906 (e-mail wilso127@yahoo.com. John remarried in the late 1870's, to Frances Cameron in Newburgh. They had one son, born in 1895 in Newburgh. His second wife died in 1916. John died in Newburgh, NY in November 1923, at 82.

Henry Ross and Elizabeth Jamison [parents] md

Maria (Mary) Elizabeth        b. 11/26/1839            d. 2/3/1849

Margaret Jane                      b. 5/12/1842              d. 7/18/1865

Samuel J.                              b. 1844??? – this is all my speculation based on 1860 census.

Elizabeth & Children buried in Coldenham Cemetery.  Need to get pictures.  This is Henry Ross’s first of two marriages.  7/2001:  visited the site; the stone is broken, not worth getting a picture.

Henry is in the 1860 federal census, Newburgh, Orange Co; page 595 (June 17, 1860) – Married to Jane C (age 33).  His occupation is Master Miller; place of birth NY.  Child Margaret J is age 17.  Also a Samuel J age 15.  Could this be Elizabeth’s last child?  She died 8/31/1844, so if a child were born, he would be 15 at the time of the census.

1880 Federal Census orange/newburgh p119A:

Samuel J. J. Ross, age 36, clerk in Flour Mill. born in NY, parents born in IRE

wife Clara H. Ross, age 35.; born in NY, parents in SCOT

            no children

Note:  his mother Elizabeth should have been born in NY – in 1814.  Since Sam was in war of 1812.  But at least he’s not

Jane C’s son, since Jane was born in NY (as per her entry in 1880 census).

This must at least be the same Samuel J as in 1860 census, but is it Elizabeth’s last child?

1880 Federal Census orange/newburgh p104D

            Henry Ross, 65, miller; Jane C. 58; children Sarah Lizzie, 25, George H., 23, John D., 18, Edward C., 16.

Henry is born in NY (parents SCOT), Jane is born in NY (parents IRE).

1889 Newburgh Directory lists Robert Ross, currier at 430 Washington;  boarding at that address are:

Anna Ross, dressmaker

James M. Ross, carpenter

Miss Mary A. Ross, spinner

Samuel Ross, laborer

Miss Sarah A. Ross, weaver

This is repeated for 1890, 91 & 92; only addition is William Ross, laborer in 1892.

There are other Ross’ at other addresses.

Jane C. Ross (widow) lives at 122 Johnston from 1889-1892.  Also at this address are:

            Mrs. Henry Wells

            Mrs. E. C. Howard

            Lizzie R. Wells (widow)

1878-9 Newburgh Directory lists Henry Ross, ‘flouring mills’, Western Ave; S. J. Ross, bookkeeper for Henry, corner Western & First.

From Susan Elliot (descendent of Agnes) sent  information included here and elsewhere.  Daniel Leslie (1815-1875) was born in Port Rush, Ireland; was a master shoemaker and merchant.  Lived in Newburgh.  Probably buried there; don’t know for sure.  There appears to be good information in the 1860 and 1870 census.  His parents:  John Leslie Sr. and Margaret Moore.

Susan Elliot has a Picture of Agnes with her grandchildren.

This section updated 3/2002 with info from Brenda Charles.

1850 Federal Census – cannot locate Daniel Leslie; there are other Irish Leslies in Newburgh, though.

Agnes, 28, is still living with her mother (see listing for Elizabeth in Crawford/Orange).

The 1878-9 Newburgh Directory lists Ms. D. Leslie as living at 159 Grand, Newburgh, NY; also there:  S. John Leslie  (see record above)

He owned the farm on the corner of Rt. 52 and Fleury Rd (east of Pine Bush), run by the Balbach’s for many years (1998).  Sarah Snider (1834-9/30/1901).  According to mom & dad’s 1863 map, farm acreage is 177 acres.

John Jamison received/aquired his gold watch in 1856; perhaps it was a wedding gift?

Need to find out where John is buried, and who his wife was.  I have a note which says he’s buried in Graham’s.  Dad thinks in Shawangunk.  I’ll need to look again:  Look with the Sniders.  7/2001:  couldn’t find anything in Shawangunk.  It would  be really nice to have an obit for him.  I’ve been all through Graham’s cemetery and haven’t found him (only brother Alex, my gg-grandfather).

5/2004:  Found Jamison/Snider monument in Bruynswick (Shawangunk) Cemetery.  Adjusted dates/children accordingly.  I have Sarah’s death date, but I must have read the Age incorrectly, so I didn’t properly update her birthdate.

7/2004:  LDS site transcribes Shawangunk Church records for marriage of John Jamison to Margaret Snider on 3/27/1856.  Also at this time I see from the Christening records that George W’s initial is for Washington.

Sarah born 2/10/1833 in Shawangunk (Dutch Reformed church records), died 9/30/1901.

Sarah’s parents Morris Snyder (1804? – 1881?) and Margaret Huntington ( - 7/7/1878) – buried in Bruynswick with John & Sarah.

7/2004 – additional info from LDS site of Shawangunk Church records.

There is a Morris Snyder born 12/10/1805 to Jacob Snyder & Sarah Terwilliger at Shawangunk Church.

Sarah’s sister Elsie Snyder born 3/2/1837, bap 7/2/1838 at Shawangunk to Morris & Margaret.

There are also records for children born in 1860’s to Cornelius Snyder & Mary Jamison.  Hmmm.

I could probably do some work from the LDS records to put together some Snyder families & timelines.

1840 Fed Census for Ulster/Shawangunk, on same page as Hugh Makimson (and next to James Snyder):

found all this 6/19/2002 – I would guess this Alex is Mary’s son / Margaret’s brother.  yes.

just two families above is the record for Henry Mackison, age 35, blacksmith, born in Ireland, in the household of Eve Jennings.

**look up Peter Makimson (from Graham’s Cemetery) in

1850 census for ulster/shawangunk p323: Peter J. Mackinson listed as Peter F. Mackimson in Graham’s.  See ancestry.com search on Mackinson.  (also found under search by mackinson)

Peter J. Mackinson, age 33, Farmer all born in Ulster.

Harriet Mackinson, age 26

Samuel, age 2

and two hired hands.

Mary Alice Mackinson b 3/10/1852, bap 6/11/1853 at Graham’s Church – parents Peter Mackinson and Harriet Weller.

 - according to headstone, she dies 7/1/1866.

In 1860 Census, only Samuel K (age 12) and Mary A (age 8) are in the Ulster/Shawangunk census.  They are listed under McKimson, in the household of Jacob H. Deyo.  OK, Peter died in 1855, so Harriet needed to go somewhere.  There is a Harriet Deyo, age 38, in the household.  Did Peter Mackinson marry Harriet Deyo?  The gravestone says Harriet Weller.  Hmm.  See image 18 of 72 at ancestry.com.

8/2004 – check if there isn’t a marriage record for them at Graham’s?

8/2004 – This doesn’t seem right to be Peter son of Hugh – the dates are wrong.  Must be another Peter.

1880 Census for Ulster/Shawangunk:  (from familysearch.org)

Samuel Mackinson, 32, Distiller & Farmer

            Anna Mackinson, 28, wife

            Alpha Mackinson, 7, son

            Harriet Deyo, Mother, 55

This Samuel looks like the one above, but no knowledge that the Peter above is related to us.

Generation 6 (great x4):

Samuel Jameson and Elizabeth McFadden  (or MacFadden) md. 6/2/1808 in Ireland

            David/Daniel             b ~1810 in Ireland? d.

            Samuel                      b                                  d.

            Jane                           b 1811                        d. 11/18/1884  buried in Coldenham Cem.

            Elizabeth                   b 6/14/1814               d. 8/31/1844

            Alexander                  b 9/14/1823               d. 12/26/1881  buried in Graham’s Cem.

            Agnes                        b 1825                        d. 1904

            John C.                      b 4/13/1826               d. 5/7/1873  buried in Bruynswick Cem.

            Mary E.                       b 1837                        d. 9/26/1862

Mary E. may not be a daughter, but a grand-daughter (Liz would be 53 at her birth).  Or perhaps a cousin from Ireland??

10/2004 – I believe she is David’s daughter.

Samuel and Elizabeth are buried in Coldenham Cemetery (both headstones are there; I have pictures of them).  They came over from Ireland – Sam from Ballywee, Liz from Parish of Drumall – I don’t know when.  Ballywee and Drumall are both in County Antrim, Ireland.  There’s a grave in Coldenham for a Mary E. Jamison died 9/26/1862, aged 25 (This is David’s daughter).  There’s another illegible Jamison stone with an 1836 date on it.

3/2006:

Tried to find the place names.  Not much luck.  Here’s mapquest’s map of Co. Antrim

Ballywee is a Townland found in two parishes:  Donegore and Kilbride.  Both parishes are in County Antrim.

Here is a parish map of Co. Antrim

If I follow correctly, Ballywee is on the border between the two parishes.

As best I can tell, this is east of Antrim, and north of Ballyclare.  I see roads named ‘Rashee’ and ‘Holestone’, which are townlands near Ballywee.

Parish ‘Drummaul’ is in County Antrim, just west of Antrim on the shores of Lough Neagh.

Sam was the youngest of several brothers, so he came over last.  He came over with the family bible.  We don’t know where it is now.  In Coldenham Cemetery, there is a War of 1812 marker next to the stone.  I hadn’t noticed this before.  Susan Elliot told me about it.  Dad confirms that he was in the War of 1812.  Sam was a saddler in the Orange County regiment for one month.

We are not sure where they farmed.  Dad thinks on County 17, between Route 52 and Hill Avenue.  That would make sense, since the two sons farmed on Fleury Road.  Phil thinks it would have been the farm passed down to John C. (on the corner of 52 and Fleury).

There are lots of Jamison-McFadden combinations that came to PA in the 17-1800’s, then moved off to Ohio.  This information is off the internet.  Along with info from a descendent of Agnes (above) I am changing the name of McFaddin to McFadden.

From the internet, a ship registry for Samuel Jamison, found on http://freespace.virgin.net/ alan.tupman/sites/irp7.htm:

Passengers per the JUPITER, William Hutchins, Master, from Belfast to New York, 1st. June, 1811:  Samuel Jamison and Agnes Jamison, both listed from Killinchie.  No McFaddens aboard.

3/2006:  This is probably NOT a relation.  Killinchy is in County Down.

Found record in 1810 federal census for Samuel Jameson. In Orange Co, NY

Found War of 1812 military record for Samuel Jameson:  Capt. Clark’s Co. NY Militia.  Rank:  Corporal.

The ages for Alexander & John are exactly correct.  Alex, the eldest son left at home, will have the occupation.  Now I don’t know who this Mary is.

Hugh Mackimson  and Mary Dickson [father Andrew Dickson] md

Peter F.                      b 1816                                                                        d 3/28/1855 buried at Graham’s

Alexander Dickson  b 7/29/1821   bap 9/16/1821 at Graham’s            d 10/29/1870, buried at Graham’s Cemetery

Mary Elizabeth         b 12/24/1823                                                 d 9/23/1846, buried at Graham’s

Margaret                    b 4/4/1826  bap 7/23/1826 at Graham’s               d 10/22/1898, buried at Graham’s Cemetery

Need to follow this line back.  Look in Graham’s cemetery for more Malcomsons.  Also, try to find alternate spellings.  Look at the Mackinsons.  There is a Hugh Mackinson and others buried right next to Alex and Margaret.  A Hugh Mackinson fought in the Civil War.  Also there are letters between Hugh and Alex in the France bible.  They refer to each other as brother.  8/2004 – need to look at these again; it may be brother Alexander Mackimson, not Alexander Jamison.  Hmmm.  The Hugh that fought in the civil war doesn’t appear to be a close relative; may be a cousin, though.

7/2004:  I think I can finally put all this together.  Added children & dates from Graham’s Church records.  Added names for Hugh & Mary, the parents.  This is all data from the LDS site’s records.  They have duplicate listings for Graham’s Church – 2 sets of marriage & christening records.

LDS IGI batch C506931:

Alexander Dickson Makimson, b 7/29/1821 to Hugh Makimson and Mary Dickson

Mary Elizabeth Mackimson, b 12/24/1823 to Hugh Mackimson and Mary Dickson

Margaret Mackimson, b 4/4/1826 to Hugh Mackimson and Mary Dixon

Mary Alice Mackinson, b 3/10/1852, bap 6/11/1853 to Peter Mackinson and Harriet Weller

LDS IGI batch C507091:

Alexander Makimson, b 7/29/1821, bap 9/16/1821 to Hugh Makimson and Mary Dickson

Mary Elizabeth Mackimson, b 12/24/1823 to Hugh Mackimson and Mary Dickson

Margaret Mackimson, b 4/4/1826, bap 7/23/1826 to Hugh Mackimson and Mary Dixon

Mary Alice Mackinson, b 3/10/1852, bap 6/11/1853 to Peter Mackinson and Harriet Weller

12/2006:  Hugh is buried in Graham’s, but where is Mary?  Maybe it’s the stone next to her father?  Mary is alive in 1850, in the household of her son Alexander.

Also, [to do]:  look at LDS site again for Peter’s son Samuel.  And look for a listing of Peter’s birth in 1816.  Maybe search on ‘Hugh’.

There is a James Malcomson living in Orange Co. NY – 1810 Federal census p. 301.

Rachel dau. of Andries Lefevre & Elizabeth Ronk; Andries son of Nathaniel Lefevre & Marie Deyo.

From LDS site (IGI C506931) –

Mary Jane Dickson, born 2/25/1830 to Alexr. Dickson and Charity Felter              ** a match with the 1850 census.

Ann Elizabeth Dickson, born 7/3/1832, bap 10/1832 to Alexr. Dickson and Charity Felter           ** a match with the 1850 census.

Generation 7 (great x5):

xx McFadden (MacFadden?) and xx xx  md

            Elizabeth                   b. 1780 or 1784 in Scotland or Ireland?   d. 4/13/1855

The 1850 census puts here birth year around 1781.

xx Mackimson  and xx xx  md

This surname changes a lot:  makinson, makimson, mackinson, mackimson, mackison, etc.

Andrew          b 9/8/1796                             d 4/1/1868, buried in Graham’s cemetery

This surname is listed as either Dixon or Dickson in the Graham’s United Presbyterian records.  I use Dickson as this matches with the grave markers in Graham’s Cemetery.

Born in NY according to daughter Margaret’s census record.

There are many, many Dicksons listed living in Orange Co/Crawford in the 1850 federal census.

12/2006 – I believe the father Andrew is buried at Graham’s, possibly with his wife.  The stone lists him as “Andries” Dickson.

Where is Mary Dickson (wife of Hugh Makimson) buried?

Is the stone between Andries & Andrew the wife of one of them?  Which one?  Look at the name:  is it Rachel?

Where is Alexander Dickson buried?
