This first set of images is his Course of Empire series. Probably his finest, in terms of scope and message. The paintings themselves are very large canvases. When arranged in a horseshoe shape they create an awe-inspiring experience.

9/2003: We saw a large, mural version of The Consummation of Empire at a minigolf place while on vacation at Myrtle Beach.

I had the opportunity to attend an exhibition of Thomas Cole's work at the Hartford, CT Wadsworth Atheneum, about 1994. It was wonderful.
